Awareness on control of forest fire held

Imphal, May 02 2016: A one day awareness programme on control of forest fire was held today at the district DRDA conference hall under the aegis of the Divisional Forest Officer, Tengnoupal Forest Division, Chandel, our correspondent reports.

Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum; Divisional Forest Of- ficer of Tengnoupal Forest Division, Chandel, Gaithaolu Thaimei; Naga Women Union, Chandel (NWUC) president Lh Bliss and CNPO publicity secretary John Chothe attended the programme as chief guest, presi- dent and guests of honour respectively.

Chandel DC Robert Ksh stressed the need for active participation of villagers in curbing the menace of forest fire.

The programme was organised to spread awareness on how the spread of forest fire can be reduced, DFO, Gaithaolu Thaimei stated.

She also highlighted some initiatives and measures that are being taken up under the Government of India to prevent forest fire.

CNPO publicity secretary John Chothe, in his speech urged the people to plant more trees.

Today's programme was mainly attended by village chiefs, Church leaders and Gov- ernment officials.
