Imphal, February 01 2016:
Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh today inaugurated a newly constructed Livelihood Business Incubation Centre at the Lamphelpat complex of Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board.
Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, Giriraj Singh stated that the idea behind opening the incubation centre is providing jobs to youth.
Youth constitute 65 per cent of the total population of India.
The country can make rapid progress only when the youth are working and they should be skilful in different fields.
However, at present, only 2.5 per cent of the country's total population are skilled workmen.
It was in this backdrop that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to make at least 70 per cent of the total population skilled work forces, Giriraj stated.
Stating that India cannot be called developed until and unless the North East region is developed at par, the Union MoS informed that Manipur shares 9 incubation centres out of 22 such centres sanctioned by MSME Ministry.
He went on to assert that Narendra Modi is determined to bring rapid development in the North East region at all costs.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Commissioner (Commerce and Industries) Vivek Kumar were also present at the function as president and guest of honour.
Vivek Kumar said that the incubation centre inaugurated today was the first of its kind in the State and similar centres would be opened at all DICs.
These centres would impart training on handloom, handicraft, aromatic and medicinal plants processing, bee keeping and other service sectors under the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Vivek Kumar continued.
NSIC Guwahati Chief General Manager JK Mahanta gave a power point presentation about the activities being taken up by NSIC and other programmes which have been lined up.
