Violence against NE people: Shinde assures Ibobi of speedy actions against culprits

New Delhi, February 09 2014:
Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh met Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at around 6.30 pm at the latter's 2- Krishna Menon Marg residence here today to discuss issues regarding increasing incidents of violence, sexual assault and molestation against the people of North East states in the national capital Delhi.
During the meeting, Ibobi strongly condemned such incidents and demanded the Union Home Minister to take stringent action against the culprits as per the law of the land.
Ibobi also requested the Union Home Minister to put in place a framework for providing adequate protection to the students and the people from the North eastern region staying in other parts of the country, especially in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.
The Chief Minister of Manipur emphasized that every citizen of the country had the right to live with dignity anywhere in the country.
He further explained that the people of the whole region including Manipur were distressed over the death of Nido Taniam from Arunachal Pradesh as well as the incident of heckling of two Manipuri girls recently and the rape of a minor girl from Manipur on the night of February 7, 2014 .
The Union Home assured the Manipur Chief Minister that speedy actions would be taken against the culprits in those incidents in accordance of law.
