Imphal, July 05 2015 :
The Food Corporation of India (FCI), Delhi, has given final touches to take up suitable actions against the Manipur Development Society (MDS) for its failure to complete the construction works of two FCI godowns much behind the stipulated time.
The regional office in Imphal was directed to take up the necessary actions against the MDS.
Since the MDS could not complete the godowns constructions in two districts the regional office had sent two show cause notices.
The MDS did not deign even to furnish replies.
On the basis of recommendation of the Manipur Government the task of constructing two godowns of rice of 2500 MT capacity each in Churachandpur and Thoubal was handed over to the MDS.
The MoU was signed on May 21, 2012 .
Though the construction works were to be completed within one year the same were not finished within the deadline.
The works were not completed within one extended year.
Consequently, the FCI served show cause notices on March 12 and April 24 this year.
Since there was no response from the MDS, the FCI decided to take up suitable actions.
When the high officials of the FCI made a surprise visit recently, the under construction works at Churachandpur, there was no worker and the works had been abandoned from December 23, 2014 .
The works in Thoubal had been stopped from January this year.
