Imphal, April 30 2018:
The Loktak Development Authority Muster Roll Employees/Workers Association has decided to launch a protest agitation.
Speaking to media persons ai Manipur Press Club here today, the association's general secretary Taorem Rabi said that there were 417 employees under LDA including workers and management staff since LDA was set up till 1995.The workers and the management staff signed an agreement with the LDA in the same year.
The agreement says that no new employees would be appointed until the existing workers and management staff are regularised or/and given work charge status.
However the State Government issued an order in 2001 which directed all departments to remove all excess staff.
Acting on the same order, 148 staff of LDA were axed even though there was no excess staff, Rabi said.
After a petition was filed at Court, the Court passed an order directing the LDA authority to give first priority to the 148 staff as and when new recruitments are made in LDA.
LDA now needs more staff.
However, rather than recruiting the requisite staff, LDA authority has been hiring workers.
When the laid off staff staged protest demonstration, some of them were arrested by police.
If the 148 laid off staff are not re-inducted into LDA by May 10, a new phase of agitation would be launched from the next day, Rabi said.
