Economic blockade in Manipur cause financial loss in Assam

The 120-day long economic blockade in Manipur, which choked the lives of the people in the state, also played a spoiler in Assam too with the neighbouring state suffering a loss of Rs 1.521 crore per day amounting to 22 percent of its annual income, said Director of Audio Vision Research Centre, Manipur University Dr Arambam Lokendro today.
He was speaking during the Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Lecture-1 organised by the Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Trust (OSMT) at the Manipur Institute of Management Studies, MU.
Dr Lokendro said that India is draining the economy of the state in the name of development by giving some mere packages.
During the blockade, India loss Rs 10 crore in Iron and Steel sector and cement industries which amounted to an approximate of Rs 1200 in three months.
Construction of some buildings and structures will not improve the quality and economy of the people living in the state.
Professor Gangmumei Kamei and Professor Ksh Bimola who also attended the lecture, stressed the need to study the thoughts of late Professor Sanajaoba.
Professor IS Khaidem was the moderator of the lecture programme.
