YAS Minister distributes rice free of cost

Chandel, May 26 2020:
Water Resources (WR) and Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS) Minister Letpao Haokip distributed NFSA rice for free at various places of Chandel district on May 25 .
The distribution marked the third phase of distribution of essential items to the people of Chandel district during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
The minister kickstarted the distribution drive on Monday morning from Mini-Secretariat, DC complex, Chandel in the attendance of DC, SP, SDOs and other top officials.
After that, the minister reached Sajik Tampak (Kana area) village, Chakpikarong, M Munpi Sugnu area and distributed rice bags there alongside SDO Chandel and SDO Chakpikarong.
At these places, he assured the villagers/beneficiaries that he will bear the price of the 5 kg per head NFSA rice that they are going to receive.
He also added that he is still keeping his word of ensuring supplies of rice to individuals till whenever the COVID-19 pandemic may last.
It may be mentioned that Letpao had earlier distributed rice and other essential commodities in two phases since the outbreak of the pandemic.
At Chakpikarong SDO office, he interacted with the village chiefs, villagers, rice agents and civil body representatives.
He listened to their grievances and assured them to not worry about shortage of rice during this period as he has committed strongly to provide uninterrupted rice supply, either from his personal capacity or from the government supply.
He also announced that the fund deposited for NFSA rice by the agents will be returned back to them, as he will bear the entire Rs 3 per kg price.
In turn, the civil leaders and the villagers appreciated the Minister for his concern and timely intervention for the people of Chandel district.
Letpao Haokip later appealed the chiefs and villagers to warmly welcome those stranded people returning to the district and not to discriminate or outcast them.
He also appealed to the public to maintain social distancing and isolation strictly as per government guidelines, adding that the public should now start learning to live with COVID-19 as it is likely to stay for a while and that personal precaution is the only key.
