National level Helpline launched

Under the aegis of the All India Christian Council (AICC) a country wide Helpline Numbers for people in distress to contact for help was launched in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The helpline will basically take up cases concerning religious freedom, freedom of conscience and fundamental right of minorities, marginalized and socially disadvantaged people.
The helpline also dedicates a special line exclusively for crime against women.
With Hyderabad as the main coordinating headquarters with a National helpline number 040-27868907 (9 am� 5 pm), the regional helplines include North India (9912741173) South India (9866709596) North East India (9100952490) and Crime Against Women Helpline (7661077687).The coordinating team comprises of Rev Paothang Haokip, Madhu Chandra and Mahruaii Sailo.
Madhu Chandra, the National Spokesperson told The Sangai Express that crimes and racial attacks against the people from North East India is now beyond Delhi and NCR.
According to Madhu Chandra, challenges faced by the people from North East India have increased in the last few years, as the number of migration into mega cities is increasing from the North East States.
"There is the need to expand our reach.
It will be all India based with its Head Office at Hyderabad, which is centrally located" said Madhu Chandra, who was the brain behind the Delhi based North East Support Center and Helpline which was initiated in 2007 .
Explaining that the National level initiative will look at issues not only of/in "mainland India " or issues of NE people facing attacks in metro cities, Madhu Chandra clarified that cases of racial attacks or attacks against religious minorities in North East India will also be dealt with.
He said " We will also be looking at issues such as attacks against Biharis in Manipur, or attacks against religious minorities in NE India and several parts of the country " .
The All India Christian Council is a Nationwide alliance of Indian Churches, organisations and individuals with over 2000 denominations and organisations.
The Council works for religious freedom, freedom of conscience and the fundamental rights of all marginalised groups regardless of caste and faith.
It works for communal peace, development and for upholding the integrity and unity of India and its Constitution.
