Imphal, January 19 2014 :
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has opposed the Government's decision to include the ugly Chandel incident (Momoko episode) in the syllabus of Indian Government and Political System of BA-III (Political Science) Sixth semester.
In a statement, ATSUM questioned what Momoko episode has to do in Indian Government and Political system.
Professor Naorem Rabei Singh should not have at the first place documented the episode which hurt the tribal people very much, ATSUM said.
Thousands of tribals could not celebrate Christmas with their love ones due to the incident, ATSUM said and added that the Government is trying to remind the tribals which has been forgotten though the incident hurt the sentiment of tribals beyond human tolerance.
ATSUM would be compelled to launch series of agitation if the government does not refrain from including the incident in the syllabus with immediate effect, the press release cautioned.
ATSUM would wait till the February 1 for the Department concerned and the Selection Committee to revoke their decision failing which the consequences would be their responsibility, the press release added.
ATSUM also strongly condemn the unfortunate incident where three young promising weighlifters namely Chunka Pamei (17) of Phalong village, Tamenglong, Soibam Aranbala (17) of Moreh Ward No 6 and Puiyam Yaiphabi (15) of Sugnu were brutally and mercilessly beaten up by boxer Dingku Singh at Khuman Lampak.
Befitting lessons must be taught to an indisciplined sportsman, the press release said and added that Dingku must have properly advised the young girls even if they did something wrong.
The Government must give befitting punishment to Dingku so that such incidents are avoided in future.
