Imphal, June 07 2015 :
Despite orders from the National Green Tribunal, the State Government has failed to demolish 28 illegal structures built at Langol Reserve Forest Land area at Lamlongei.
Joint secretary of Lamlongei Yaipha Thouda Nupi Marup (LYTNM) M Binita asserted the above statement during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.
The reserve forest area was demarcated for construction of TB and Leprosy Treatment Centre with an allotted space of 0.956 hectares.
Challenging the illegal construction beyond the given space, residents of Lamlongei along with Lamlongei Yaipha Thouda Nupi Marup had formally lodged a complaint with the Court of National Green Tribunal.
As a response the Court had directed the State Government to remove or demolish all the illegal structures set up beyond the 0.956 hectares within a stipulated time frame.
State Departments concerned were given four weeks time on May 14 for the purpose.
However, none of the said constructions have been removed till date, Binita stated.
LYTNM will take the matter to the Supreme Court in case the Departments concerned fail to implement the Tribunal's order within June 10, Binita warned.
She further stated that LYTNM along with residents of Lamlongei would take up the demolition works, the outcome of which should be borne by State Departments concerned.
