Imphal, August 31 2016:
Worker's Union Manipur (WUM) has appealed to all the concerned to put an end to the culture of bandh and blockades in the State.
WUM president K London in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, said the State has seen far too many bandhs in the past few months as if there is no governance.
"With the State Government playing the role of a mute spectator, it is the daily wage earners who are hurting by the bandh," he said.
Imposing a bandh has become the only means of protest for all the groups and organisations of the State.
The State has endured countless bandhs and general strikes in the past also but the frequency of such protest in recent days is alarming, London stated.
"Various forms of bandhs imposed by different organisations are lined up till September 5.To top it off, there is an indefinite economic blockade going on in the national highways How can daily wage earners survive at such juncture? What will become of the young students if this continues?," the WUM president questioned.
"Its time both for both the Government and the people to act against the growing trend of bandh", he said.
Even though the groups or organisations calling a bandh says that medical and other essential services will be excluded from the purview of the bandh, people who work for minimal wages like sweepers face difficulties during the bandh.
He has urged all the concerned to exclude daily wage earners and minimal wage workers from the purview of the bandh.
