The Thadou Students' Association (TSA), Ghqs has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Urban Development, Govt of India for excluding Haolenphai village, Moreh from the nominated Smart Cities.
In a statement, TSA Ghqs said that it protested the Govt of Manipur's move to set up a new township in Moreh by grabbing tribal land of about 3000 acres in the name of setting up a smart city at Haolenphai.
The TSA had submitted numerous memoranda to the State Govt, Union Ministers and the PM on Nov 22 registering its stiff opposition to the setting up of a smart city at Haolenphai.
The students' body also imposed a total NHs bandh in Nov 2014 besides staging a mass protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Nov 22, 2014.The TSA also saluted the chief of Haolenphai, Lalkholun Haokip, for his relentless commitment to the cause of the people and the tribal community at large.
It also acknowledged the support it received from all concerned in this regard.
The TSA further warned that it would launch democratic resistance movement if the Govt insists to acquire tribal land against the wishes and interests of the tribal people.
At the same time, TSA also endorsed the 12 hours bandh called by ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO.
