Imphal, August 20 2021:
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has said that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considering inclusion of Manipuri language in the list of 'Indian Classical Language' and inclusion of Meetei Mayek on currency notes.
He said this in a message issued today in connection with Manipuri language day and added that despite Central Government's willingness, if the departments concerned and people do not work together, the Central Government alone cannot do much.
If Manipuri language is included in the 'Indian Classical Language' list, it will become the 7th Indian language in the list.
During the Parliament session on September 22, he had sought the attention of the House for the inclusion of Manipuri language in the list, he added.
He also appealed everyone to speak and promote the language as much as possible and stop projecting the language is a bad light.
Leishemba Sanajaoba reiterated that the inclusion of Manipuri language in 8th Schedule was a result of a long struggle and it was finally included in the list on August 20, 1992 .
