Senapati District Women's Association celebrates 'Silver Jubilee'

Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Mini Indoor Stadium, Senapati today under the theme, "Striving for prosperity" .
The function was graced by Alexander Maikho, member ADC Senapati as chief guest; Somorjit Salam DC Senapati as guest of honour and M Pradip Singh SP Senapati as the functional president.
Mentioned may be made that Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA), the apex women body of the district, was formed on September 10, 1994 with the objectives to uplift the status of women, her dignity and rights, to promote unity, integrity, solidarity, to maintain peace and harmony, to preserve and conserve the rich cultural heritage of the land, to initiate, facilitate and co-ordinate awareness programmes for participation and involvement in socio-economic aspects and all round development of the society.

Delivering the welcome note, RN Hannah, president SDWA acknowledged the contribution of the past executives and members who had relentlessly contributed towards achieving the milestone.
Asha Wungnam, president Naga Women's Union (NWU), in her greetings, described the day as to show honour and respect to the pioneers who had sacrificed their life for the development of the organization.
Somorjit Salam DC Senapati that it is a proud moment for the entire district to witness silver jubilee celebration.
The DC further said that growth of a society depends on the growth of women.
Speaking as the chief guest, Alexander Maikho conveyed the message given by Losii Dikho, Minister, PHED, Printing & Stationery, who was supposed to attend the programme as chief guest on the occasion but could not as he was out of station.
He said that celebrating the day could be termed as a positive change for the society.
The chief guest also spoke on the gender inequalities and the need for women empowerment.
A Kapani, Chairman ADC Senapati, while congratulating the executives of the present and past on the notable progress achieved by SDWA in the last 25 years, stated that completion of 25 years is indeed a major milestone in the lives of women society of the district.
He also lauded the women body for providing peaceful environment during the worst time.
Civil Society Organisations including the Naga Women's Union (NWU), United Naga Council (UNC), Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Tribe Presidents of Mao Council, Maram Union, Poumai Naga Union, Thangal Union, Zeliangrong Union-Senapati Zone, Student organisations of the district, ADC Members of the district and federating units of Senapati District Women's Association also attended the programme.
