Imphal, August 29 2013:
Although the Border Road Organisation (BRO) had reportedly taken up repairing work of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiri road) after blocking the road to traffic for three consecutive days, the condition of the highway still remains deplorable with more than 800 Imphal bound loaded vehicles coming got stranded at Kambiron, Barak and Sibilong areas.
Informing this to media, H Ranjit, President of Transporter and Drivers' Council, recalled that the State Government had blocked NH-37 for three consecutive days following request from the officials of BRO to carry out repairing work along NH 37, from August 21 to 23.But BRO was only using an excavator and putting in mud along the stretch of the road.
As soon as the repairing of the road or filling in of mud by BRO was over, around 900 goods laden trucks, including 102 fertilizer trucks and 289 rice laden trucks proceeded towards Imphal from Jiribam.
Among these loaded trucks, around 100 managed to escape the bad road and proceeded to Imphal, but the remaining 800 trucks got stranded at Kambiron, Barak and Sibilong areas, he added.
He further stated that the TDC would be taking up legal actions against BRO for blocking the National Highway in the name of repairing the road but cheating the people.
