Compensation distributed to the affected people of Heikrumakhong mob violence incident

Imphal, December 22 2017:
Imphal East District Administration distributed compensation to the people affected by the mob violence incident at Khurai Heikrumakhong on December 18, last year .
Account payee cheque were distributed to the affected people as compensation in the event which was organised at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat today with Khurai MLA L Susindro, Imphal East DC Th Chitra Devi and ADC Imphal East Luckyson N Kashung as presidium members.
It may be mentioned that numerous vehicles occupied by people returning to Ukhrul for Christmas as well as properties were burned/ destroyed in the December 18 incident.
Speaking at the event, MLA Susindro expressed that the incident might have been prevent if additional security measures were taken up at the time .
DC Th Chitra said that the State Home Department constituted a committee regarding the incident on April 22 this year, comprised of the then Imphal East DC, Imphal East SP, Director of Manipur Fire Service and PWD Executive Engineer.
Four additional sub committees were also constituted to look into the matter, comprised of officials of Imphal East SP, Manipur Fire Services, PWD/Imphal East, District Transport Office and District Administration Imphal East.
The said sub committees processed all the claims, objections and hearing regarding the loss of property at the Heikru Makhong incident .
Pointing out that the committee received 409 claims, DC Chitra said that the total compensation amount was calculated at Rs 1,98,27,246 .
The committee sent a proposal to the State Government regarding the compensation and the District Administration organised the programme to distribute the said compensation to the affected people, after approval from the Cabinet, the DC added .
Although the compensations were meant to be handed over to the 409 affected people, cheques were handed out to those people who submitted their bank account details to the concerned authority yesterday .
Pointing out that the delay in providing the compensation resulted from the recent floods in the State, the DC further informed that the necessary compensations will be given to the left out claimants after they provide the necessary bank account details.
