Short course on integrated farming commences

A ten-day course on "Integrated Farming System: An Approach towards Livelihood Security and Natural Resource Conservation" was inaugurated today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal.
According to a statement, the event is being sponsored by Agricultural Education Division of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
K Kipgen, Director, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Govt of Manipur attended the inaugural session as chief guest; while Col CJ Rego, Officer Commanding, 512 SSTC, GREF and Dr Mrinmay Dutta, Joint Director, ICAR-Tripura Centre were the guest of honour and special guest, respectively.

The welcome address and key note address about the short course were delivered by two Course-Coordinators Dr MA Ansari, Scientist (Agronomy) and Dr SS Roy, Scientist (Horticulture), respectively.
Special guest Dr M Dutta, in his speech, briefly explained the importance of IFS for improving the livelihood and nutritional security of the farming community.
He also expressed that after the short course each participant should develop a IFS model in their experimental farm as demonstration unit for the farmers.
Guest of honour, Col CJ Rego narrated his experience with the farmers and also requested the participants to disseminate the technology to the ultimate stakeholders.
Dr K Kipgen, the Chief Guest of inaugural function congratulated ICAR for taking such important initiative and also expressed that under the changing climatic scenario integrated farming system has emerged as one of the effective tool for sustaining the crop productivity and livelihood of the farmers.
In all, 28 participants covering scientist, associate professor, assistant professor, programme coordinators and Subject Matter Specialists of various disciplines from ten different States namely Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and Manipur took part in the short course.
Eminent scientists and academicians from different parts of the country will deliver talks as resource persons in the technical session.
The course content includes deliberations, laboratory and field practical, film show and field visit to live IFS models and will continue till September 25 .
