Expired pesticides to be disposed with Nagpur experts

Pesticides which could not be distributed to the farmers in time and whose validity had already expired would be disposed off with due consultation of experts from the Nagpur-based National Environmental Research institute, said Agriculture Minister Md Nasir Ali in today's session of the assembly.
The Minister was replying to a poser from Trinamool Congress MLA Dr ibohalbi, who expressed concerned that 38 types of unused pesticides procured by the Agriculture Department is posing health hazards due to non disposal of the same in time.
He also suggested that Department officials responsible for the huge pile-up of insecticides/pesticides be pulled up for an explanation and appropriate action.
Among the unused pesticides many have toxic compositions which in case of unregulated disposal pose threat to humans and animals, said the MLA.
In addition to taking relevant measures and consulting the Nagpur experts for disposal of the unused insecticides soon after the assembly session is over, Minister Nasir assured that experts of Central Agriculture University as well as Manipur university would be intimated for safe disposal of the same.
