Road blocked to protest death

Imphal-Yairipok road was blocked for a few hours as protest erupted over the death of one Hidam Rojit (33) of Langdum Makha Leikai who was critically injured following a road rage incident on August 15 .
Hidam Rojit, son of Hidam Tomba was an employee of "Jio Mobile Internet Service Company" .
He was badly injured in an altercation which broke out at Ngariyan under Andro police station.
As per a report available with The Sangai Express, Rojit and 3 others were on their way home from a mobile tower installation work when the first altercation broke out at Ngariyang Chingkhong road with other motorists.
Rojit and his company were having pineapple when the other side caught up again and entered into a fight during which Rojit was injured on the head and rushed to Advance Hospital, it said.
Rojit succumbed to his injuries yesterday at 9 pm at ICU of Advance Hospital, it said.
Following his demise, irate residents of Langdom formed a JAC and blocked Imphal Ngariyan road at Langdum Lamkhai as a mark of protest.
Soon after the police received the information of obstruction of vehicular movement, a team led by Addl SP Imphal East rushed to the spot and tried to control the protesters.
The situation was controlled and vehicular movement was allowed to resume only after learning that one Loitongbam Somokanta (53) from Angtha Mamang Leikai involved in the fight was reportedly arrested by police.
The JAC formed in connection with the death of Rojit also urged the Government to take up necessary action.
In the meantime, Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal East has sent accused Loitongbam Somo- kanta to police custody till August 25.Somokanta presently residing at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, was arrested from Porompat today and was produced before the Court by a team of Andro police via video conference this evening in connection with the death of Hidam Rojit.
The IO submitted during the production that the accused had admitted to the charges levelled against him and prayed for police custody remand for eight days.
The Court on perusal of the case record and hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to 6 days police custody for smooth investigation.
