Imphal, May 04 2019:
Divers and volunteers of Indian Navy, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur and Ramrei village who worked tirelessly to trace and fish out the bodies of the three persons killed in Mapithel Dam reservoir after their boats capsized on April 28 were felicitated at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today.
Chief Minister N Biren felicitated divers and volunteers of Indian Navy, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur and Ramrei village by presenting a memento and a shawl each as acknowledgement of their selfless efforts to trace and fish out the three bodies.
However, Manipur Fire Service personnel who also took part in the sustained rescue operation were not invited to the felicitation function and it created deep resentment among many Fire Service officials.
Speaking at the felicitation function, N Biren hailed Indian Navy divers and the country's disaster management teams as comparable to the world's best divers.
The Chief Minister also conveyed gratitude to Manipur Fire Service, Assam Rifles and other rescue teams.
Saying that the State Government has not yet recognised Ramrei village eco-park as a tourist spot, the Chief Minister appealed to all concerned to abide by the dos and donts issued by the State Government recently with regard to different water bodies including Loktak Lake which serve as tourist spots.
