Imphal, May 02 2016:
While welcoming Chief Minister O Ibobi's assurance to establish the facts and circumstances leading to the death of S Prasanta within two days, the JAC constituted in connection with the controversial death has threatened to call a two-day State-wide bandh if the same assurance is not translated into action.
JAC representatives met the Chief Minister this afternoon and they were appealed by the CM to wait for just two days, according to a press release issued by the JAC.
If the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Prasanta cannot be established within two days as promised by the Chief Minister, a 48-hour bandh would be imposed all over the State with effect from May 5 midnight.
The JAC expressed strong suspicion over the authority's failure to make the post mortem report public within 48 hours after the autopsy.
Notably, Sagolsem Prasanta alias Abung (24) of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai was found hung to death from a tree at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai in a suspicious manner in the morning of April 24.The JAC constituted in connection with the controversial death has been imposing highway bandh from Singjamei to Canchipur.
Protest demonstrations were staged all along the highway between Singjamei and Canchipur today as well.
This was followed by a rally from Kakwa to the Chief Minister's official residence but they were blocked by police at Singjamei Chingamakhong.
Nonetheless, some JAC representatives and a few family members of the deceased were allowed to proceed and meet the Chief Minister.
