Manipuri folk dances workshop in Mangalore

Mangalore, December 30 2011:
The cultural association of St Agnes College will organize a five-day national level workshop on folk dances of Manipur at the college auditorium here from January 12 .
The main aim of the workshop, sponsored by UGC and the dept of Kannada and culture, is to imbibe love and interest in India's culture and folklore among the students across India.
College principal Marie Prem D'Souza said around 100 delegates from across India would attend the workshop.
Renowned artistes Padmashree Darshana Jhavery and troupe (Mumbai) and Latasana Devi and Gyaneshwari Devi (Manipur) will explain to students the various forms of Manipuri folk and tribal dances.
Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the workshop, while A V Navuda, retired professor of Hampi Kannada University, will be chief guest for the valedictory.
