Imphal, November 29 2010:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh should make public the outcome of his meeting with the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister over the status of UNLF chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima, whose whereabouts are still not known after his reported arrest in Bangladesh and subsequently handed over to Indian authorities.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh arrived from Delhi here this afternoon.
A joint meeting of the office bearers, advisors, MLAs and other leaders of MPP was held today at the party office and discussed the issue centering around RK Meghen.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang informed that the meeting took serious note over the stoic silence of the Government of India over the fate of RK Meghen even after his reported arrest in Bangladesh and subsequent handing over to Indian authorities.
Quoting the BBC report in which it was first reportedly that RK Meghen had been flown to Delhi after his arrest by a combined Intelligence team of India and Bangladesh from near Dhaka, Dr Nimaichand recalled that not long after this report, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai had assured that he would communicate the veracity of the report during his last visit to Imphal.
But no such thing has taken place.
Yet, National secretary of CPI AB Bhardhan has confirmed from his Bangladesh counterpart that RK Meghen had been indeed arrested in Bangladesh and later handed over to India n authority.
Moreover, Tehelka has come up with its investigation report that RK Meghen is now in a safe-house in Mehrauli, Delhi after being handed over to India by Bangladesh, Dr Nimaichand pointed out.
He said that soon after the reported arrest of RK Meghen in Bangladesh, MPP had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding to know the truth of the matter.
People of Manipur have also been staging Wakat Meepham every day, he said, adding that in such a situation, denying the people to know the exact status of RK Meghen for more than 2/3 months tantamounts to discriminatory and dictatorial rule against the people of Manipur.
The silence of the Congress led Government over the issue while the people are living in a state of uncertainty is condemnable.
So, the Chief Minister should make public the outcome of his meeting with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, Dr Nimaichand demanded.
Today's MPP meeting has also reportedly adopted a resolution to the effect of sending a fresh memorandum to the Government of India for revealing the whereabouts of RK Meghen at the earliest possible.
