Farmers' training held

Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Imphal has conducted a one-day training programme for farmers on organic farming at Kaloipan High School, Khumbong village panchayat in Imphal West yesterday.
According to a statement, the village Panchayat is selected by MP Thokchom Meinya (Lok Sabha Inner Manipur) under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) programme.
The training programme was inaugurated by Thokchom Meinya, MP.
In his inaugural speech, he urged farmers to adopt organic farming.
He also emphasized that organic farming is the need of the hour to reduce the consumption of harmful chemicals which have reportedly high concentration in agricultural produces.
Officials from RCOF Imphal including Dr Chandra Shekhar (Scientific Officer), JB Karmakar (Technical Assistant) and YS Koireng (FLA) conducted the programme in coordination with U Himmat (Regional Council, PGS-India) .
Dr Samarjeet Singh (Associate Professor, Department of Agronomy, CAU, Imphal) and Dr Kh Ibohal Singh (Associate Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, CAU, Imphal) were the resource persons of the technical sessions.
They elaborated the various aspects of organic farming and stressed the importance of innovative ITKs in agriculture.
Thereafter officials from RCOF, Imphal discussed the principles and practices of organic farming and acceptability of organic agriculture for small and marginal farmers.
They also discussed the importance of organic certification and participatory organic guarantee system and its importance.
Ch Bijanti Devi (ZP member) and S Indubala Devi (GP) along with 54 farmers from the gram panchayat were present during
the programme.
Kh Ibochouba (Nodal officer, SAGY), M Raju Singh and D Gangte also attended the programme, the statement said.
