Imphal, August 20 2021:
The State Government should keep a strict vigil whether the private schools in the State adheres to the tuition fee structure laid by the State.
The above appeal was made by the prominent six student bodies in the State viz AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS in a joint statement.
The student bodies expressed concern that many private schools are charging extra fees from the students defying the directives set by the Government on collection of tuition fees.
The student bodies alleged that Maipakpi Hr Sec School at Wangkhei, Accent Girls Academy at Sagolband and Little Flower School are charging extra tuition fees from the students and summoned the school authorities concerned to come to the office of the student bodies at the earliest and to clarify on the matter.
Stating that charging extra fees is adding more burden to the students and their parents amid the trying times of COVID-19 pandemic, the student bodies opined that such acts clearly indicates that the schools concerned are doing business in the name of providing education.
The student bodies also lamented that the Government are also rendering support to those schools by giving recognition without checking properly whether the schools fulfil the criteria or not which is really unfortunate.
