Four beaten up by policemen in plainclothes

Imphal, March 17 2015:
Four locals allegedly were beaten up by three men said to be police personnel in civil dress following an altercation after they were requested to maintain decency at a Thabal Chongba site.
At the same time, angry locals caught one of the men along with arms and thrashed him.
The incident occurred last night at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai under Wangoi PS in Imphal West district.
Reports culled from the spot said that a Thabal Chongba was organised at the premises of a Govt HS located at the locality.
Yumnam Premananda (39) s/o (L) Kullabi, a local, who is also said to be a Havildar of IRB, had asked one of the youths to behave properly.
Heated argument ensued when the latter used derogatory words.
The quarrel was put under control with the intervention of local club leaders.
When Premananda returned home to retire around 11.30 pm, three armed men including the one he had a heated argument early in the night beat up four persons including him.
According to Premananda, the three armed men knocked at his door last night after he returned from the Thabal Chongba site.
As soon as he opened the door, the armed men butted and started assaulting him before he could speak any word.
Premananda's brother, Samungou (55) and his younger brother Momocha alias Pradipkumar (35) were also beaten up by the armed men.
Another person identified as Yumnam Budhi (48) s/o (L) Ibotombi was also hospitalised at JNIMS after he was thrashed by the armed men.
The armed men also dismantled furniture items like trunk, box and bed.
Other family members of Premananda alerted the crowd at the Thabal Chongba site immediately.
One of the armed men was overpowered by the locals after a chase.
A pistol was recovered from the possession of the overpowered man which was later handed over to an officer at Mayang Imphal PS.
Meanwhile, Samungou, brother of Premananda who was beaten up last night by the armed men, lodged a written complaint at Mayang Imphal PS today.
A public meeting held today at the locality in connection with the incident also adopted several resolutions.
Another source identified the man thrashed by the public as Mohendra (30) s/o Tomcha of Singjamei Thongam Leikai.
He is said to be a personnel of Imphal West district police commando attached to Mayang Imphal PS.
He was treated at Shija hospital.
Mohendra was discharged from the hospital later today.
Locals also said that last night incident was the fourth such incident wherein police commandos attached to Mayang Imphal PS were involved.
