The United Peoples' Front, one of the umbrella organizations of various Kuki UGs group under tripartite agreement with the State and Central Governments today alleged frequent harassment of its cadres by the State police commandos and showed its disapproval in the strongest term.
The organization information and publicity secretary, Thanglenlal Doungel, chairman, Kuki Revolutionary Front stated that SoO cadres of various Kuki militant outfits which are under tripartite agreement with the State and Central Governments have been repeatedly a victim of Manipur police commandos brutality, assaults and harassment on many occasions in the State.
He also said that the cruel and errant Manipur police commandos have no civility towards the public thereby creating a panicky atmosphere among the innocent civilians in the society which is well known by all and sundry in the State.
The United Peoples' Front is very much against such intimidating attitude and nature of the State commandos and extremely discontented over their callous activities towards the SoO cadres and the innocent public, stated Doungel.
He continued that any violation of SoO ground rules on the part of the SoO militant outfits should be tabled and discussed at the Joint Monitoring Group [JMG] meeting instead of harassing the SoO cadres and mauling the innocent civilians without any respect.
Regrettably, no Joint Monitoring Group [JMG] meeting has been convened since the last JMG meeting on July, 2014 while the monthly stipend of the SoO cadres has also ceased till today, said the UPF information and publicity secretary.
While drawing the attention of the State Government the UPF appealed to ensure that commandos stop its brutality on SoO cadres and mauling the innocent civilians while urging the Government to convene a JMG meeting and release the monthly stipend at the earliest.
