Sangai festival concludes

The tenday Manipur Sangai Festival has concluded with dazzling cultural items including presentation from a Thai troupe at BOAT today.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Governor Gurbachan Jagat said, it is a sin to hinder the free living of people of different communities by a certain group of people.
Such hindrances to the free will of the people may dilute the image of the State which has been being acclaimed by the world, he added.
Gurbachan Jagat said that it was unfortunate to disturb the festival on the concluding day with a terrifying bomb blast creating loss of a life and injuring many.
The Governor said that the festival strives towards showcasing and promoting the best of what the State has to offer to the world in terms of arts and culture, handloom and handicrafts, fine arts, flora and fauna, indigenous games and sports, cuisines, music, adventure sports and ecotourism.
Gurbachan Jagat said that the festival has assumed greater importance in the recent days as it celebrates national integration as well as unity among different ethnic groups living in the State.
Saying that tourism is the future of Manipur, the Governor said that Manipur has high tourism potential, which will generate much needed revenue thereby employing the youths of the State.
Domestic tourists from other parts of the country would certainly discover delightful places, rare flora and fauna in the Loktak Lake and other areas, he added.
The Governor also mentioned about the rich cultural heritage, indigenous games and sports, dances like Raas Leela and tribal dances in his speech.
Tourism Minister TN Haokip presided over the closing function, which was also attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker I Hemochandra, MLA Radhabinod Koijam, MPCC President MLA Gaikhangam and AMWJU president A Mobi and State Minorities Commission Chairperson A Halim Choudhury.
