Imphal, March 26 2020:
Just two days before the Manipur Legislative Assembly Spea-ker's Tribunal would announce its reserved verdict regarding the disqualifi-cation case of Thounaojam Shyamkumar, the MLA representing Andro Assembly Constituency has tendered his resignation today.
Recently, the Supreme Court barred Th Shyam-kumar from holding any ministerial portfolios as well as from entering the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Shyamkumar tendered his resignation letter to Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand today.
Even before he was sworn in as an MLA after he was elected from Andro AC on Congress ticket, Shyamkumar switched his allegiance and lent support to the BJP-led coalition Government.
Since then, he had been serving as Minister for MAHUD, Horticulture & Soil Conservation and Forest and Environment.
Since couple of years of back, Shyamkumar has been facing a case filed at the Speaker's Tribunal under the anti-defection law (10th Schedule of the Constitution).
The tribunal earlier notified that the final verdict of the case would be announced on March 28 .
In the meantime, MLA K Meghachandra filed a petition at the Supreme Court charging that the Speaker's Tribunal has been dilly-dallying the case of Th Shyamkumar.
After hearing the petition, the apex Court passed an interim order on March 18 whereby Th Shyam-kumar was barred from holding any ministerial portfolio and also from entering the Manipur
Legislative Assembly complex.
