Youth beaten to death on theft charge

Imphal, August 14 2015 : A youth was reportedly beaten to death by a mob on the charge of stealing a solar lamp in Wangoi Keithel area of Thoubal district in the wee hours of Friday.

A DIO scooter was also torched.

A police source said Md Abdul Kalam, also known as Phajabi (21) from Lilong Chingkham Makha, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

The incident happened at around 3 am.

A DIO scooter on which the deceased along with one of his friends came was also burned down by the mob.

Sources said two more friends of Md Abdul Kalam were also involved in the theft.

The four came to the area in two scooters, but three of them fled.

He was caught by a group of morning joggers and severely beaten up.

A team from Wangoi Police Station rushed him to hospital, but succumbed on the way.

The body has been handed over to the family after post mortem at RIMS mortuary, Imphal.
