Imphal, January 14 2013:
The Senapati District Consumers' Club has said that the club is fully awake and keeping strict vigil so tha the CAF & PD Department, Senapati does not blindfold the public of Senapati to fatten their fat belly with the quotas meant for the poor people.
In a press release, the club said, Chief Secretary DS Poonia had referred the complaints of the SDCC made against the CAF & PD, Senapati to the State Vigilance Department in July last year regarding siphoning off of PDS items for the month of August and September 2011 .
Since then, there has been considerable progress in verification process probed by by the Vigilance Department, it added.
The press release further said that the Club has also brought the matter to the street for mass information and participation of the general public in the form of sit-in-protest on November 19, last year.
Most of the frontal organizations and tribal Hohos of the district extended solidarity to the club in fighting corruption and standing for consumers' welfare, it added.
Horvever the CAF & PD, Senapati is hell bent to neutralize the SDCC efforts by greasing the palm of a few civil society leaders and unscrupulous FPS agents, an attempt to wash their dirty linen before the public.
The club had requested the FFS agents to be patient and not to collect the quotas for the two months under dispute, however the Department persuaded them and issued PDS items without the original deposit slips retained by the club which is a blatant violation of code of conduct, SDCC said.
Hence the SDCC will place all the relevant matters before the authority concerned for delivering justice which among others include payment of compensation to the agents for harassment and interests on deposits and punishment of the culprit.
SDCC also requested the general public and civil societies to support the movement launched by the Club to stand against corruption in CAF & PD and other places.
