Imphal, December 04 2019:
Executive members and volunteers of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) staged a sit in protest and staged a rally today, demanding a Special State Assembly Session before December 10 and to adopt concrete resolutions with regard to the prevailing uncertainty due to the Naga peace talks.
A large number of COCOMI members and volunteers staged a sit in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall.

The protesters then began a rally proceeding towards the Chief Minister's bungalow holding banners and placards demanding a Special Assembly Session before December 10 and shouting slogans like 'Long Live Manipur', 'No to separate autonomous territorial council' and 'Hold special Assembly session before December10' etc.
Upon reaching Keishampat junction, some of the police personnel who were deployed at the area tried to stop the rally from advancing further but the protesters forced their way up to the middle of the Keishampat bridge.
However, they were stopped by a large number of police personnel led by the OC of Imphal PS, Inspector N Ingocha and forced to turn back.
The police put up iron barricades and guided the rally back to the community hall.
Speaking to media persons at the community hall, Sunil Karam, convenor of COCOMI, said that the protest demonstration was carried out by COCOMI in the face of the apprehension that a separate autonomous territorial council based on ethnic line may be formed as a result of the Naga peace talk.
He said earlier in their meeting on November 25, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah hinted that the Centre plans to create a separate territorial council but this was vehemently opposed by COCOMI.
As such COCOMI feels that it is important to intensify the agitation so as to save the integrity of Manipur.
Appealing to the people to extend support, he said that as the Centre put forward its desire to create a separate autonomous territorial council during the meeting, in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren, the State Government must now take a stand by convening a special Assembly session and adopt a resolution to safeguard the integrity of Manipur.
COCOMI is against the proposed Winter Assembly Session from December 18, he said and demanded the session to be held before December 10 as the Parliamentary Winter session will conclude on December 13 .
On the other hand, he claimed that no agreement was reached between the Chief Minister and COCOMI with regard to the present issue.
He also appealed the people not to take COCOMI in the wrong way and to instead extend their full support to the association as it still stands firmly against any impact to the State as a result of the Naga peace process.
