Active cases reach 35, 779 air passengers quarantined

Imphal, May 26 2020:
As many as seven people tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 48 hours taking the State's total number of COVID-19 active cases and positive cases to 35 and 39 .
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, a 26 year old resident of Churachandpur who returned from Chennai recently tested positive for COVID-19 at JNIMS.
Subsequently, he was taken to the isolation ward of Churachandpur district hospital.
A 21 year old resident of Noney district who returned from Gujarat was tested positive for COVID-19 at RIMS yesterday.
He is now undergoing treatment at the COVID care facility of RIMS.
Another returnee from Gujarat who is a 20 year old woman of Kangpokpi district also tested positive at JNIMS yesterday.
A 19 year old youth who was quarantined at Tadubi, Senapati district was tested positive for COVID-19 at JNIMS yesterday.
The youth returned from Chennai recently.
Moreover, out of 323 samples tested at RIMS last night, three were found positive for COVID-19 and all three of them belong to Imphal West district.
Their samples were collected on May 20.Out of the three, one is a 20 year old youth who returned from Chandigarh by train.
The second one is a 23 year old student who has been studying at Chandigarh but he travelled from Delhi to Imphal by bus.
The third one is a 44 year old man who returned from Jorhat, Assam in a car.
Meanwhile, following resumption of domestic flight service, 448 people came to Imphal in four different flights yesterday.
Another group of 331 people were also brought to Imphal from Delhi in two flights today.
On landing at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, all the passengers were screened by medical teams using full body scanner.
They should remain in quarantine centres for 14 days or until they are tested negative for COVID-19, according to the press release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman.
Aggrieved by the Government's order which said that all the people who return to the State by air should remain under home quarantine, volunteers of AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS came to the airport and demanded that all returnees by air should be put in community or institutional quarantine.
They also met the Imphal West SP.
Later, the Chief Secretary issued an order which said that all returnees by air would also be put in community or institutional quarantine centres.
Subsequently, HRD Academy, Ghari and Little Flower School were named as quarantine centres.
Thus the people who returned to the State by air were taken to the schools after inspection by the Imphal West DC together with volunteers of the student bodies.
