Government is seriously pondering on ILPS issue, says RK Anand

Imphal, March 22 2015: MLA RK Anand has said on Sunday that the State Government is weighing up seriously on the issue of introduction of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur.

"I'll choose not to compromise with the ruling Government or any other Government on the ILP issue," the MLA pledged while inaugurating a newly constructed community hall at Lairenjam Sabal Mamang Leikai in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituency.

He added that making a new Act is not an easy job and asserted that certain amendments can be made in the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015 (MRVT & MW Bill 2015) on public demand.

Explaining the positive impact given by public movement in many occasions, Anand said the then Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre revoked Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from seven assembly segments of Manipur.

He cited that the Centre also acted in tune with the public sentiment and later pulled out the Assam Rifles from Kangla Fort which was handed to the people.

Attacking BJP, Anand accused the NDA Government at the Centre of tagging along with the Army and other forces in the Defence who want to draw out AFSPA in Manipur and other States.
