Low number of tests, low new cases define Covid map on Aug 20

Imphal, August 20 2021:
A notable drop in the number of tests conducted and a corresponding drop in the number of new cases marked the last 24 hours with 372 people returning positive results out of a total of 3642 people tested in the last 24 hours.
On August 19, a total of 4165 samples were tested and out of this 526 new cases were detected.
A low number of test and a low number of new cases, and the daily positivity rate also saw a slight drop at 10.2 percent from the 12.6 percent recorded on August 19 .
Though the number of new cases dropped significantly to 372, which is the second lowest in August this year after the low of 275 detected on August 16, the number of deaths saw a sharp increase from the 4 of August 19 to 7 on August 20 .
With 7 more deaths added, the cumulative number of deaths due to the virus has reached 1739 .
Out of the 7 persons who succumbed to the virus, four had comorbidities and four of them had received the first dose of the vaccine.
The 372 people who returned positive results include one Central security personnel and their positive status were confirmed at RIMS (29), JNIMS (22), District Hospitals (228) and other testing centres (93).The 371 civilians include 203 females and they are from Imphal East (73), Imphal West (131), Thoubal (17), Bishnupur (10), Kakching (11), Ukhrul (23), Churachandpur (47), Chandel (1), Senapati (13), Tamenglong (9), Jiribam (2), Pherzawl (2), Kamjong (30) and Kangpokpi (2) .
All necessary measures including containment and contact tracing are in place, said the COVID-19 Common Control Room in a statement.
On the other hand, 478 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours from home isolation (200), RIMS (18), JNIMS (13), CCCS (148) and CHICs (99).The COVID-19 Common Control Room claimed that for various reasons 1092 people were reported as discharged only today and therefore the total number of recovered cases is considered as 1570 after reconciliation with reports from IDSAP team, home isolation team, community home isolation and hospitalisation team as on August 20 .
The cumulative number of recovered cases thus is 1,04,173 including 4,040 Central security personnel, it said and added that the recovery rate has climbed to 94.51 percent.
The number of active cases is 4,303 including 41 Central security personnel.
On August 19, the number of people who received their vaccination shots is 4631 including 2,93,672 people who have received their second dose.
The total number of people to have been vaccinated so far is 14,67,603 .
In the last 24 hours 1739 D Type Oxygen cylinders and 357 B Type Oxygen cylinders were sent to different health centres.
