Works Minister Biswajit tests positive, 111 fresh cases detected

Works Minister Thongam Biswajit has been tested positive for COVID-19 today.
He is the second Cabinet Minister to have tested positive for the virus after Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
Apart from Biswajit, his two daughters, two security escorts and four personal staff were found infected by the contagion after their samples were tested today at JNIMS.
111 fresh cases have been added to the State's tally of COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours.
The fresh cases including eight personnel of CAPF were confirmed after testing at RIMS (6), Chandel (3), Imphal East (10), Mother's Care (1), Imphal West (49), Shija Hospital (1), Bishnupur (5), Thoubal (8), Ukhrul (2), Tengnoupal (1), Churachandpur (3), Kakching (1), Kangpokpi (1), Raj Medicity (4), Babina Diagnostics (12), Advance Hospital (1) and Jivan Hospital (1) .
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, the fresh positive cases belong to Imphal West (59), Kakching (3), Tengnoupal (2), Chandel (1), Imphal East (15), Churachandpur (4), Bishnupur (2), Thoubal (12), Ukhrul (2) and Kangpokpi (1) .
Out of these fresh cases, 98 have no history of travelling outside the State except three (Churachandpur-2, Chandel-1) who are returnees from other States.
On the other hand, 209 people have been discharged from RIMS (7), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (27), CCC UNACCO (29), CCC Thoubal (12), Lamding Wangjing (18), TK Ukhrul (1), JNV Chandel (3), Moreh (2), Jiribam (13), Senapati (1) and CAPF (96) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test during the last 24 hours.
The cumulative figure of COVID-19 positive cases in the State is 7579 (general population 5807, Central security personnel 1772) .
It includes 1533 active cases (general population 1231, Central security personnel 302) and 6002 discharged cases (general population 4535, Central security personnel 1467).The recovery rate as on Friday is 79.19 per cent.
So far 44 people have died due to the virus.
The first case was detected on March 24 and the number of infection has been increasing in three figures for the last many days with Imphal West having the most number of positive cases.
