Imphal, September 23:
The preservation and protection of territorial integrity of the State and unity of its people can materialise if people of Manipur sincerely put into action thoughts and principle of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, said convenor of the SPF Government's steering committee MLA Dr M Nara.
Speaking as chief guest on the 110th anniversary observation of Lamyanba Irabot at Oriental College under the joint aegis of Celebration Committee Patsoi and Imphal West District, Dr Nara recalled the resolute stand adopted by Irabot when the Government of India decided to form Purvanchal Pradesh by combining all the North Eastern States with utter disregard to the separate identity and history of Manipur.
Considering the apprehension of territorial disintegration lurking among the minds of the people, the SPF convenor asserted that it was time to follow the footsteps of Lamyanba Irabot and to put into actions his thoughts and lofty principles.
He also maintained that CPI was the first among political parties that raised strong opposition against extension of ceasefire between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) to the territory of Manipur.
Comparing the present Manipuri society to a rudderless society, a nation without any capable leader marked by rampant killings, subjugation of the poor and weaker sections, the MLA asked whether the people of the State would allow the society to drift further in an unpredictable direction.
Under such a grim scenario, the only way to correct the wrongdoings and waywardness of the people of Manipur would be to follow in the foot steps of Lamyanba Irabot as was demonstrated by his own life, opined Dr Nara.
The president of the observation, MLA of Patsoi Assembly constituency M Nabadwip claimed that the incumbent SPF Government was able to remain stable and last its full term because of the support extended by five CPI MLAs.
He also reminded of the welfare activities taken up by CPI or under its influence in the State despite the small number of CPI MLAs in the SPF Government.
In 32 polling stations of the Patsoi assembly segment, numerous development activities were undertaken under the local area development fund.
He further disclosed that works have been going on to hand over a water supply scheme and a district library office to the people of the constituency.
Today's observation also featured march past and salute to the portrait of Irabot by more than 30 contingents belonging to Nupi Marups of Imphal West district, AISF, Loumi Marup, AMYPO and students of different schools.
