Bushan Haobam clinches men's open singles title

Imphal, January 21 2020: Bushan Haobam has won the men's open singles title at the Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial IDTA Invitation Open Tennis Tournament organised by Imphal District Tennis Association at IDTA Tennis Complex, Lamphelpat.

Bushan won the title today with a hard fought 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (9-7) win against Vilasier Khate of Nagaland in the final match today.

Meanwhile, Bonna was able to lift the men's above 35 years singles title by defeating Lukas 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (8) in a keenly contested final clash staged today.

In the above 45 years men's singles final, Tuleshwar earned a 6-2, 7-5 win against Th Ibohal to deservingly claim the title.

Above 55 years men's singles title on the other hand went to Dilip N who eased past Sarat L 6-0, 6-2 in the final match today.

Bonna along with Rupam won the above 35 years doubles crown as they thrashed Kangjamba and Lukas 6-2, 6-3 in the final today.

Bushan also earned his second title, this time with Ribaskar beating Lalrinawama and Lalruatlunga pair 6-4, 6-4 in the men's open doubles final.

The day also saw Kangjamba and Tuleshwar fetch the doubles title for above 45 years after they cruised to an easy 6-0, 6-1 win against Th Ibohal and Naveen A in the final.

Speaking at the closing ceremony as chief guest, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) RK Ranjan lauded the players and appealed the organizer to make the tournament more popular in the future.

The closing function was also graced by President, Imphal District Tennis Association Keisham Ramkumar Singh as functional resident while Commissioner (MAHUD/Art & Culture/.IRP) Mongjam Joy Singh, IAS; Director (IPR) Heisnam Balkrisna Singh, MCS; SP (Vigilance) Heisnam Balram Singh, MPS and Heisnam (O) Sanatombi Devi attended as guests of honour.

Winner(s) and runner (s) up were also feted with trophies and cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively during the closing function of the tournament which was held since January 17.Altogether 131 players were participated in the tournament in different categories.
