New Delhi, October 25 2013 :
The Mongoloid Peoples Forum, (MPF) and the All India Tribal Students Association, Delhi have expressed deep gratitude to the National Human Right Commission chairperson Justice K.G Balakrishnan, Justice Cyriac Joseph, Satyabrata Pal, and SC Sinha for their memorable 3-day visit to the trouble torn state of Manipur.
Visiting Hospital, Dam and giving a hearing to parents of fake encounter will be solaced to them, and an eye opener to the government and the security personnel including the Armies, who often take advantage of the ignorance and helplessness of the people.
The New Delhi based organisations said the visit of the NHRC is like guardians coming to see their ward, who were living in fear, dejection, and often displace and deprived of their rightful shares.
The visit also sounds like a warning bell to the poor administrative system in the state, as the commission might return with bundles of issues to be seriously discussed at the central level.
"Either out of Ignorance of the Law or lack of moral values, the basic human rights of the common people of Manipur has been violated in many ways, and not only by the security forces alone.
Government servants including Doctors and Nurses, School teachers, District administrators etc hardly thought about respecting the right of the people.
Even the stronger communities have least respect for the basic human right of the weaker and poorer section of the society.
Thousands of people who were displaced from their natural habitats and livelihood by the Lok- Tak project, alleged clearing of Phumdis in the loktak lake, Khuga Dam, Mapithel Dam etc who are now desperately languishing are yet to be compensated," MPF and AITSA stated.
The MPF and AITSA appeal to the commission, to set up a central agency for monitoring the menacing violation of human right in the trouble torn state with a Carrots and Stick approach as the state government seems to have miserably failed to deliver basic justice to its citizen.
MPF and AITSA, Delhi said they will also write to the NHRC Delhi, conveying its gratitude for the marvelous concern, the Commission had displayed during their three days stayed in the neglected state of Manipur.
