Traffic Circus: Manipur Style :: Absence of TCP men creates chaos
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, September 20 2016:
A chaotic situation unfolds at North AOC traffic island every time when TCP personnel manning the traffic island are away from their post.
When this reporter reached the traffic island of North AOC at around 4.15 pm today, there were neither police nor TCP personnel.
With no TCP personnel on the traffic island to direct the flow of traffic, vehicles coming different directions merged together around the traffic island thereby creating a chaotic situation.
Likewise, no TCP personnel could be seen at Porompat traffic junction and Lamlong Keithel junction.
There is not even a traffic island at Lamlong Keithel.
Porompat traffic island is very important for traffic regulation as it is located at the cross-roads of Checkon road, Ayangpalli road, Porompat road and the road leading to JNIMS.
Absence of TCP personnel at Porompat traffic island may cause severe inconveniences to people, particularly sick people coming to JNIMS.
There is also a need to deploy TCP personnel at JNIMS gate.
For Imphal East district, Lamlong Keithel is one of the fastest growing markets.
As National Highway 150 passes directly through Lamlong Keithel, absence of TCP personnel at Lamlong creates lots of traffic problems.
On the other hand, Lamlong bridge has turned out to be a serious transport bottleneck particularly during peak hours like office hours and school hours as several types of vehicles including heavy vehicles coming from different directions like NH 150, Sagolmang, Saikul, Dingku road, Porompat road, Tinsid Road, Pangei etc merge at the bridge.
But no TCP personnel are deployed around Lamlong bridge.
Even though Imphal East Traffic Control Police might be facing shortage of manpower, it is essential to station some TCP personnel at some key points.
Nonetheless, TCP personnel were seen till late evening at Wahengbam Leikai traffic junction and Nagamapal-RIMS Road traffic junction.
