Dimasa-Sema tension subsides, security put on alert mode

Dimapur, June 20 2011: The tense situation at the disputed area between the Dimasas and the Semas in Hazadisa village of Dhansiripar sub-division under Dimapur district following the destruction of houses and properties reportedly by youths from a Sema tribe based village called Khekiho village was brought under control with the deployment of one platoon of security forces in the areas.

Hazadisa village is a Dimasa village.

On Monday, the Dimapur district administration brought the two concerned parties � Khekiho village and Hazadisa village across the table and made them sign a 'Peace Bond' by which both agreed to maintain status quo and respect each other's jurisdiction in the presence of SDO Dhansiripar, Anoop Kinchi at his office.

A joint verification by district officials, GBs and elders of both Khekiho and Hazadisa villages was also carried out in the disputed areas.

The situation in Hazadisa village was tensed after the destruction of houses and property allegedly by youths from Khekiho village on June 17 .

Khekiho village was established by Rajya Sabha member Khekiho Zhimomi.

Youths from Khekiho village came to Hazadisa on June 17 and beat up Manen Langthasa, a member of the village council and the next day about 40 youths from Khekiho village raided Hazadisa, assaulted residents and destroyed household properties worth Rs 10 lakh and also took away some motorcycles and Rs 60,000 in cash.

DC Dimapur Moangwati Aier informed that the administration had earlier issued official order thrice to those involved in the encroachment of land to vacate the place and refrain from creating law and order problem.

He also confirmed the report that the youths from Khekiho village came to Hazadisa village and destroyed household materials and took away properties like motorcycles and cash which are listed in police file.

SDO Dhansiripar Anoop Kinchi who is posted at Dhansiripar sub-division took stock of the situation in the post-destruction and held meetings with the area people.

The Hazadisa village council reportedly said that ever since Khekiho village was set up in 1992, its villagers have been encroaching on Hazadisa land.

"The Hazadiza village has been complaining against illegal encroachment to the district administration, but authorities have not taken any action," the council said.
