BJP upbeat ahead of local body polls

Manipur Pradesh has claimed that it would secure far greater number of seats than the ruling Congress party in the forthcoming election to 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayats.

BJP Manipur Pradesh RTI cell State convenor Mongjam Poireihanba has filed an application under RTI Act to the SPIO/Principal Secretary (Home) seeking "the list of candidates who appeared in the DPC held for recruitment of Sub-Inspectors and Jemadar in 2010 as well as the marks secured by them.
Incidentally, results of the DPC were declared in 2014 .
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office here today, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary (administration) M Ashnikumar said that BJP is all prepared for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections scheduled on January 11 .
Citing the thumping victory scored by BJP in the by-election to Thangmeiband AC and Thongju AC, Ashnikumar exuded that BJP would again score a landslide victory in the local body elections.
Ashnikumar who is also the convenor of BJP election campaign committee said that 382 BJP supporters are contesting for 55 8 Ward Development Committee (WDC) seats.
He said that the public would be kept informed and the party would fight in a befitting manner against any attempt to take recourse to money power.
The election would be reviewed by BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav and many National leaders of the party would join the election campaign.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam's assertion of BJP being communal and non-secular is a baseless propaganda aimed at hoodwinking minority groups, he added.
Poireihanba said that there have been many complaints of graft in connection with the recruitment drive of Sub-Inspectors and Jemadars.
