Irom Sharmila's counsel names 16 witnesses ; Witnesses to back hunger striker

Irom Chanu Sharmila's counsel has submitted the names of 16 defence witnesses including two from other States to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
All these witnesses will depose before the Court in favour of the marathon hunger striker.
Of the 16 witnesses, one is from Jadavpur (West Bengal) and another from Sadulpur (Rajasthan).
Sharmila appeared before the Court under Cril (P) case number 129 of 2015 today as well.
During today's hearing, defence witness Maisnam Jhaljit of Hiyanglam, Thoubal district gave his statement to the Court.
He was cross examined by the prosecution counsel.
Later, the Court fixed January 2 as the next date of hearing.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Sharmila reiterated that she has never tried to commit suicide but has been simply adopting indefinite
hunger strike as a democratic means to demand repeal of AFSPA.
She also said that she is clueless why she has not been taken to New Delhi for her Court appearance.
Sharmila said that as per directive of the Court, she is currently basking in the sun for around 30 minutes daily.
Saying that voice of people is the supreme voice, Sharmila urged all sections of the society to collectively press the Government to repeal the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
