Imphal, June 15 2016:
Stating that Manipuri forefathers were farsighted, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that using of the term, 'Nongpok Thong Hangba' (opening of the eastern gate) by them centuries back was the indication of it.
The forefathers predicted that 'Look East Policy'would come one day, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Elora Hotel at Moreh Ward No 9 today.
He said that if the people of the current generation value the sayings and predictions of the late forefathers, they must give up the habit of calling bandhs and blockades, fighting each other and adopting ethnic and community centric policies.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that he wishes to see a bandh and blockade-free Manipur where hill and tribal people have mutual understanding and respect for each other.
Gaikhangam said that it has now been realized that bandhs and blockades give only hardships to the common people.
Maintaining that people must shun hatred and give up fighting each other, Gaikhangam said that it is now high time to put in collective efforts for the development of the motherland.
Urging the people to leave the personal agendas, Gaikhangam said, "Manipur is ours and we need to work together to develop it" .
"We can't address mother to somebody's mother.
We must not invite anybody to resolve the issue which has been troubling our family.
Let's wipe the tears of Mother Manipur", he said.
Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang and former Minister Bijoy Koijam, Chandel ADC Chairman Seshei Jou and UNACCO Managing Director N Irabanta attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
