Children park on the anvil

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that a huge park especially for children will be constructed in the State soon.
This was announced by him at the Children's Day Celebration organised by Department of Social Welfare at the Auditorium of Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong today.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, N Biren Singh also announced that a "Toy Train" would be installed at Takyel Children park.
Stating that Health and Social Welfare Department will be working jointly in implementing various schemes for the welfare of the children, he appealed to all the parents and guardians not to give extra burden to children but to provide them time and space so as to make them aware about the environment and society better.
Highlighting the effects of social media on children, the Chief Minister urged the people not to upload any images/videos with violent contents on social media which would have a negative impact on the children.
He also spoke about the importance of nurturing the children in a clean and peaceful environment.
The Chief Minister stated that Manipur is rife with various crimes, problems and issues such as rampant drug abuse and alcoholism, despite being a small State.
Adding that drug abuse and alcoholism are the main cause of many untimely death which adversely affects the society, he urged the people to work with strong determination in order to root out the problems of drug abuse and alcoholism from the State.
He also expressed disappointment over the previous Government of being a silent spectator rather than addressing the issue.
Speaking as president of the function, Social Welfare Minister, Nemcha Kipgen narrated the immense love and affection Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had for children.
Mentioning that children are the future of the Nation, the Minister stressed the need to protect children from sexual exploitation, child abuse, child labour and various other crimes.
She further said that support of the public and CSOs are also needed to properly implement various laws enacted by the Government for the welfare of children.
Children from Ideal Blind School, Deaf and Mute School, Takyel and others performed songs and cultural items during the programme.
The Chief Minister also presented gifts to the children as part of the celebration.
Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Sunitibala Ningthoujam, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, V Vumlunmang, Secretary to CM, Ningthoujam Geoffrey also attended the function among others.
