Imphal, January 28, 2012:
The Election to the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly which was held today went off peacefully in all the valley districts but violence marred polling in some of the hill districts of the state.
Though the Election Commission of India could not announce the exact poll percentage till the filling of this report, yet it is reported that the poll percentage was above 80% according to the provisional poll percentage obtained from the State Election Office.
It has also been reported that the exact poll percentage will be known only after the EVMs reached the district head quarters and the photographs taken by the polling personnel are checked and verified accordingly.
Since cases of booth capturing, vandalising of EVMs and other election related crimes have been reported in some polling stations in the hill districts of the state, it is likely that repoll will be done in not less than 6 polling stations.
According to the provisional poll percentage obtained from the State Election office at around 6:30pm today, the poll percentage recorded in Imphal West was 85.29% with altogether 331642 persons (163416 males and 168227 females) coming out to cast their votes, Imphal East recorded a poll percentage of 85.80% with altogether 281595 voters (139241 males and 142355 females) coming out to cast their votes, Thoubal district recorded a poll percentage of 85% with 261316 voters ( 128185 males and133132 females) coming out to cast their votes.

It has also been reported that since polling in some of the constituencies in the hills and the plains were carried out till 6:30 pm today, the actual poll percentage could not be announced.
As casting of votes was carried out slowly in almost all the 60 A/Cs, the polling process went on till late in the evening.
The delay in the process was mainly due to taking of photographs of all the electors, admitted the State Election office.
