Guwahati, May 26 2015 :
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the Class XII board examination results on Monday and the pass percentage of the Guwahati zone dropped by about 6 pc.
From 75.80 pc last year, the figure dropped to 70.38 pc this year.
Board officials attributed the decline to a modification of the question paper pattern this year.
"The number of difficult questions increased this year.
From 20 to 30 pc, the difficulty level of the papers increased to around 40-60 pc.
This affected the overall percentage," said Sanjib Das, regional officer of the Guwahati zone.
A large number of students from Govt-run schools in Sikkim and Arunachal appears in the CBSE board examination and this also accounts for the lower pass percentage of the Guwahati zone, Das said.
Arunachal and Sikkim do not have State education boards and all Government schools, some with poor infrastructure, are affiliated to CBSE.
Overall, the Thiruvananthapuram region recorded the highest pass percentage 95.41 pc.
Girls outshone boys this year in the Guwahati zone with a pass percentage of 73 pc.
The pass percentage of boys was 68 pc.
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas produced the best results in the zone with 94.30 pc pass percentage.
The Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) came second with a pass percentage of 93.74 pc.
