Sadar Hills, November 20 2016:
The Joint Action Committee for Sadar Hills decided to avoid its proposed indefinite economic blockade over the Sadar Hills issue but resolved to implement another form of intense agitation which will not affect the public in the larger interest yesterday.
The JAC Sadar Hills decision to eschew its plan to impose an indefinite economic blockade was taken in an emergency meeting held yesterday at Kangpokpi considering the appeals from several civil bodies and the present hardships encountered by the innocent public of the State due to the ongoing UNC sponsored indefinite economic blockade which is interestingly against any agenda to declare Sadar Hills as full-fledged district.
The meeting was attended by members of the JAC and various civil society organizations of Sadar Hills.
In the meeting, the JAC Sadar Hills conveyed sincere gratitude to all Congress Councillors of ADC Sadar Hills for resigning from the Congress party in the interest of Sadar Hills and following the ultimatum of the JAC.
It also said that such commendable gesture on the part Congress Councillors obviously indicate that they truly represent the people of Sadar Hills and it will definitely create a historic change in the Sadar Hills movement.
The exemplary efforts of ADC Sadar Hills Congress Councillors will always be remembered in the history of the demand to upgrade Sadar Hills to the status of a full fledged district, it added.
Meanwhile, the JAC said that there are scores of appeals from several civil bodies not to go ahead with the proposed indefinite economic blockade since the State has been reeling under immense hardships due to the ongoing blockade sponsored by the United Naga Council over Sadar Hills.
"The present scenario and public grievances in the State are mainly due to the indefinite economic blockade sponsored by UNC which is against Sadar Hills and this is hard to digest", stated the JAC Sadar Hills and added that it is the larger interest of the people of Manipur that "we [JAC Sadar Hills] digest accept the appeals of the civil bodies and decide to abandon the pre-plan agitation" .
However, the JAC Sadar Hills asserted "we have planned another intense form of agitation which is all ready for implementation anytime, if the State Government takes advantage of the decision to drop the proposed economic blockade, which was taken only in the larger interest of the State" .
The JAC Sadar Hills, however, refused to divulge the details of the 'already planned agitation' stating that it will be implemented without considering the outcome and further information if the "State Government compels us to go ahead" .
