Amongst the North Eastern states, Manipur has become the first and fourth in the country to cover all the educational institutions under the school mapping programme.
An informed source said under the Sarva shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme mapping of all Government, private as well as aided schools have been completed through the satellite.
It is said that experts of New Delhi-based Geo space Mission carried out the school mapping programme, which is a mechanism to assess infrastructure and other inadequacies of a school without having to reach the location.
Through the school mapping programme, according to the source, density or absence of schools in a specific area can be taken into account so that remedial steps such as school building construction can be initiated.
The source also confided that with the completion of the school mapping programme in the State, Human Resource Development Ministry has approved sanction of Rs 250 crores for effective implementation of the SSA programme within this fiscal.
On the other hand, a pilot project under the SSA to cover 90 junior high schools under the multi-seat system model computer aided learning centre has commenced with the first phase of the project to include 10 schools in each of the district.
The computer aided learning would be sustained through solar power provision and 10 computer sets would be provided to the selected schools in addition to relevant training course of the teaching staff, added the source.
