Along with signing of an MoU between the State Government and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to facilitate issue of Unique Identification numbers (Aadhaar) to all residents of the State, the Planning Department has been chosen as nodal department of the same project.
According to a notification issued by Planning Department Special Secretary Dr Sajjad Hassan, the Unique Identification can be used both as address proof and identity proof documents.
As the UIDAI has already signed another MoU with the Registrar General of India for collection of biometric data for National Population Registry, the UIDAI shall issue Unique Identification numbers to all residents of the State.
Further, UIDAI has appointed Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) as enrolment agency.
Collection of biometric data is in progress through BEL vendors��MANITRON and In Media.
The ongoing exercise which is being conducted in partnership with Deputy Commissioners of the districts is targeted for completion by October this year.
